Almost four years ago, I fell in love for the first time--twenty-five years too late--and began an affair. Over the years, Kevin and I have met several times a week and email several times a day. I have kept almost all of the emails that I sent to him and that he sent to me. Along the way, there has been laughter and tenderness and heat...and heartache.

This blog is the posting of our daily emails. It chronicles the lives of two people over a four year period so far, and tells the story of our burgeoning love against the backdrop of New York City.

The names and addresses have been changed to protect the innocent; the rest is 100% real.

The daily update structure helps keep the blog as authentic as possible as well as living up to its title. It also strives to provide the reader with the kind of pleasure that a soap opera offers--a daily dose of voyeuristic fun.

Please begin at the beginning, otherwise, little will make sense.

Enjoy.

Sugar Babies

What happened to you checking in? I’m sure you’re having a lot more interesting day than I am. I finished a piece for The Newsletter, then had to discuss how to get my daughter up to her best friend’s country house in the Berkshires for June 13th over-night which will be a pain in the ass in a very major way. Not only she won’t get to go to the full Lacrosse camp, but my husband will most probably be on a business trip, and I don’t drive the highways. The girl’s parents can’t take Isabela because all these other parents have saddled them with their kids already, so either I have to take the train for 2 hours there and back, or send her with this car service. I trust the driver 100% but it will be so expensive.

Anyway, so you know how AM sends you these updates, saying who contacted you and stuff? There is this guy who was going on and on about women’s profiles. As it turns out, the ratio of men to women is really skewed, and there are many women looking for sugar daddies. I had wondered about that, but didn’t really think about it. As it turns out, I was right. I love being right.

Now, I will go figure out the kids’ schedule some more for the pre-camp period, and try to edit this piece of trash one of these parents has sent me instead of a piece of writing.

I’m not sure about Tuesday. I’ll try, but I can’t promise. My husband is in between jobs right now, so he’s always home, but he has a trip he has to go on in early June to deal with his mother’s estate and will be gone for at least a week if not longer. We can meet pretty freely then if your schedule allows.

Thanks for the email. I was thrilled to see it. I tried to reach out on Google chat earlier. I guess I should have warned you.

I just got back from my Sunday routine. I went for a run, then to church and finally the grocery.

What a gorgeous day! I am hoping to BBQ.

Check out Sophia’s Wine bar for Tuesday. Hotel bars usually have some quiet corners we can find too. Keep me posted about Tuesday. I will make sure my schedule is flexible when you can get out. Aren’t you looking for a sugar daddy? Yes, there are lots of them. Not sure how many of them get
“jobs”. I can’t imagine getting involved like that. If I was in a relationship and the need developed I would of course be generous, but for a stranger? Ick.

My parents never let us go to camp for more or less the same reason. I never minded. There was always so much to do here. I hope that turns out well for you. At the moment it sounds like there will be drama. A driver? Really? For a Lacrosse camp? I would make a lousy parent.

Did you teach the little kids to be nice without scandalizing everyone with the risqué items in the Bible?

Where do you shop, Fairway? What are you going to cook? Can you cook other stuff besides BBQ?

I’ll check out Sophia’s wine bar. I found a couple of places too. Salon de Ning or Oasis. I liked Oasis better, but see what you think.

All the money goes to the kids. Hopefully the camp period will be FREEDOM for me. I tried to find a sugar daddy, but I don’t know, I looked and looked but nobody wanted my opinionated ass. Since you don’t kid around, you know I’m just kidding, right? You can’t imagine being in a relationship like that because you don’t think of women like that, thank goodness. But you can be my sugar daddy if you like : )

The Lacrosse camp is right here at school. I just can’t sign her up, because by going up to the Berkshires for 3days, she’ll only end up going to 2 days of camp. It’s for her friend’s birthday party that I have to take her up there, or send her by car service, not for anything worthwhile even. Imagine that! And count your blessings.

 I’m glad you wrote : )

I am interested in your work on The Newsletter. I was especially intrigued by the part about editing the trash. You must have some great stories. I suppose you have to be careful not to offend Ms. Hemingway. The parents probably think they are brilliant. Someday you will have to show me an edition.

You should see the writing I see at work. My boss, whom I respect, writes and says, “supposibly”. The misuse of common words is unbelievable. After 10 years with the Japanese and 4 with MTV it is a miracle that I speak English. You will have to tell me if I start slipping yo.

Today is the feast of the Pentecost. The lesson is to believe what is in our heart. You know what is right regardless of what you read in a book, any book, or hear from others. At the end of every class I say, and do you know what the lesson was today? And they say “Be Nice.” So ends the lesson. Every story has the same lesson. I have resisted the urge to “keep it real” and scandalize them. The kids would actually love it. Maybe in the movie version of my life.

We have a food emporium nearby. It is expensive, but more convenient and the patrons are better behaved. Fairway is a free for all. I only bbq for the most part. Once in a while I will cook a chicken or something, but not often. I am making hamburgers tonight. My wife has odd eating habits. These she can eat. She can’t eat rice, bread, pasta or potatoes. It is a long list.

People on there want to, believe me. Most of the sugar babies are ghetto queens. You could never go out in public with them.

I am blessed. I count meeting you as proof. Good luck with the kids.

 Me.

I like that, you’re right, you know what is right regardless of what you read in any book. That is just so hilarious and cute about the little kids. Isn’t it all about kindness, anyway? It is to me.

I know how awful that Fairway is on the week-ends. But I eat organic so they have a great section upstairs that is always less crowded than downstairs. I have to say that you should eat organic as much as you can. We haven’t even properly kissed and I’m instructing you as to your diet, women, right?! Still. It sounds to me that your wife might be gluten intolerant. I guess among other things, because rice doesn’t have gluten. Gluten is a very heavy substance. When I had the emergency ulcer surgery, it was a no-no, but it’s in too many delicious things.

How do you know about them ghetto sugar babies? : )

I feel lucky too, but not as a punk : ) I love Clint Eastwood.

Sofia’s wine bar looks great. At least the food does. I like the location a lot. Do they have couches? : )

I am not sure about the couches. That would be perfect. I will keep looking. We need to get the proper kissing out of the way.

It is all about kindness and humility. I also like to think it is about beauty as well.

I am progressing to organic. I get meats, fruits and vegetables. I eat out a lot though. My wife isn’t intolerant. She likes to diet. Each new diet eliminates one more thing from the list. It is a variation on an eating disorder.

You had an ulcer? That must be painful.

I wouldn’t be comfortable being seen with a ghetto princess. It wouldn’t look right. I think it would attract attention I wouldn’t want. Of course, I could be wrong. It is just a feeling. Besides, what would we rap about?

Clint is one of my favorites. I am surprised we share that. He makes those movies you dislike.
