Almost four years ago, I fell in love for the first time--twenty-five years too late--and began an affair. Over the years, Kevin and I have met several times a week and email several times a day. I have kept almost all of the emails that I sent to him and that he sent to me. Along the way, there has been laughter and tenderness and heat...and heartache.

This blog is the posting of our daily emails. It chronicles the lives of two people over a four year period so far, and tells the story of our burgeoning love against the backdrop of New York City.

The names and addresses have been changed to protect the innocent; the rest is 100% real.

The daily update structure helps keep the blog as authentic as possible as well as living up to its title. It also strives to provide the reader with the kind of pleasure that a soap opera offers--a daily dose of voyeuristic fun.

Please begin at the beginning, otherwise, little will make sense.

Enjoy.

Chopyy Waters

Good morning,

How are you?  I got wet on the way in.  I didn't check the weather I guess.  I should have because with the AC problems at work I am in the weather business.  I am glad it is Friday.  I don't have to work a full day.  No real plans for the weekend.  Might see Terra Cotta Warriors.  There are only 9 there.  For some reason that seems weak.  Maybe I will think differently when I see them.  You?

XOXOXOX

Good morning, my love:

Yes, it's a gloomy looking day. We did get caught in that down pour on the way to VT. It was kind of frightening because of all the lightening. I hadn't seen lightening like that since I was on a boat coming back from Fire Island years ago, but that was very distant. Nadi was very worried until I told her we were safe in the car. I have no idea if it's true, I hope it was. Do you have a change of clothing at work? I was glad you enjoyed your karate class yesterday. It always pleases me that you like exercise. And I'm not just being selfish : )

The trip ended up better than it started. I was annoyed by the hotel to begin with because in New England they always charge you an arm and a leg like in Europe, but it's no Europe that's for sure. For the price per room at this hotel which actually wasn't New England, it was upstate NY, Lake George, we could've had a really nice room at the Carlyle or something in the city even. And it was about 40 minutes or so away from where Isabela was, so that meant we had to get up even earlier to get her at 10:00, because she was adamant we come earlier rather than later. Then Nadi was annoying in all kinds of ways, and eventually we had the fight. But the next morning, she wrote me this cute apology poem and gave me a big hug, so all was resolved. We got Isabela and it was a beautiful day, so we got a picnic lunch and rented a motor boat. The lake water was surprisingly warm, so we ate lunch on the boat then went swimming. Everyone had their bathing suits except for me, so I went skinny dipping, much to Nadi’s anxiety, because unlike Isabela, she was born a prude. I really don't know where she gets it from, but it's true what they say, they actually have their own personalities despite their upbringing.

Today is going to be busy cleaning their clothes, getting them last minute stuff then taking them to camp tomorrow. Nothing else for the week-end. Maybe a movie or something.

What is Terra Cotta Warriors? Is that an exhibit?

I hope you've dried by now : )

XOXOXOX

HFG

Hello HFG,

Welcome back.  Glad you made it safely.  And I am not just being selfish.  Skinny dipping?  nice.  That is hot.  I don't like skinny dipping because I don't like water.  We could try it in a tub sometime.

Terra Cotta Warriors is an exhibit at the Discovery Center in Times Square.  Some ancient Chinese King was buried with 8,000 life sized statutes.  They were found under a field somewhere.  9 of them are here.

I dried.  I do have a clean t-shirt here so I would have been ok.  Plus it is cold in here.

Have a great day.  I love you.

Hi SNB:

I'm so happy I'll see you this coming week. I miss you. You don't like water? You're like your cats then : ) I love water. When I was a kid my brother-in-law would take his younger brother and me to the Caspian Sea (it's the world’s biggest lake and it was clean back then) on his family's boat and teach us how to water ski. I was getting it too, but then the revolution happened. One can learn so much easier when one is a kid. I tried again in Jamaica as an adult, but all I got for it was a scar on my ankle. So, I like to swim in lakes, pools too, but they have to be warm.

The exhibit sounds interesting. They made a whole lot of statues. It must've taken them a long while.

Your building is so insane, it's either hot or cold; when is it just right then? : )

It's been a LONG day. Not only does my husband get on my nerves to no end, but it's been crazy running around getting the girls ready for camp. I have found this really good sunblock but they only sell it at specialty stores, like an Apothecary on West 4th Street, so, had to go all the way down there to get it. Then to Target for extra towels, blanket, fan. One girl had them, the other needed some stuff. Finally home!

So, should we talk about this Thursday and Friday? I have a dentist appointment near Wall Street for checkup and cleaning. They hate me there because I don't have a single cavity. It's genetic. My great grandmother, grandmother and aunt had/have the same teeth. If I were a horse, I would bring in a very good price : ) My appointment is at 2:15. It will probably take an hour or so then I'll make my way uptown. So, I can meet you where ever and whenever you like. I should leave probably between 8-9. Do you have the entire Friday off? I can meet you around 1 if you're free. I'm thinking maybe on Thursday, we can check out the hotels in person, say we're checking them out for our relatives coming from out of town like from NJ to spend the day and need a place for their packages and to rest. We can check out the lobby and a room to see what we think. I'll wear my wedding hardware so it looks like we're married. We have three choices, Manhattan, Harold Square, Sanctuary, and I've found a couple more I'll look into on the net later tonight. If we book something and pre-pay for the next day, they may go for a day rate or early check-in. The Harold Square told me they don't take reservations, one has to call a half an hour before one wants to arrive, but I'm sure they'll take cash and book one a room for the next day if we go in person. Logistics, logistics!

I got you a book that has most of Khayyam's quatrains translated by Fitzgerald, a life of Fitzgerald and an essay by Emerson on Persian poetry. I like Emerson. He said some cool stuff in general. I don't know if you'd like it, so let me know if it interests you.

I love you,

Me.

I am looking forward to seeing you too.  It has been too long.  You are a beautiful woman.

I don't like water.  I am not a fan of sun either.   It isn't a question of sunblock although I never tried one from the Apothecary on West 4th. So Thursday is your dentist appointment? I will find a place for us to meet.  Maybe near your dentist? On Friday I probably can't meet until 3.

XOXOXO

Are you trying to imply that I'm hoity toity, or is it just coming across that way on the page? : )

So Thursday is your dentist appointment?
Didn't I just write that?

I will find a place for us to meet. Maybe near your dentist?
That depends on when you can meet me and my very clean minty mouth.  My appointment is at 2:15 so I'll be done about 3:30 the latest. If you can meet me then great, but I thought you won't get out of work until at least 4 or 5. We have to come uptown anyway, so if you're still at work, I can start walking up to say Flatiron or Chelsea?

On Friday I probably can't meet until 3.
OK, let's not enter hotels together, although we don't know anyone in those parts of town, except your Times Square off ice is near there. If you can't meet until 3, then we can just go to the Waldorf or Hilton, since their check in is at 3. I have massage at 7, so we'll have a few hours, or we can just postpone until the 31st. Is that also the case on that Tues, 31, you can meet at 3 or so, or can you take the whole afternoon off? Are you able to take some afternoon during the week off and work on Saturday instead? I'm not quite sure how your schedule works.
