Almost four years ago, I fell in love for the first time--twenty-five years too late--and began an affair. Over the years, Kevin and I have met several times a week and email several times a day. I have kept almost all of the emails that I sent to him and that he sent to me. Along the way, there has been laughter and tenderness and heat...and heartache.

This blog is the posting of our daily emails. It chronicles the lives of two people over a four year period so far, and tells the story of our burgeoning love against the backdrop of New York City.

The names and addresses have been changed to protect the innocent; the rest is 100% real.

The daily update structure helps keep the blog as authentic as possible as well as living up to its title. It also strives to provide the reader with the kind of pleasure that a soap opera offers--a daily dose of voyeuristic fun.

Please begin at the beginning, otherwise, little will make sense.

Enjoy.

Friend of the Band

I get a brief solo in the last song.  I don't do much.  That ain't my thing.  I don't mind that she knows.  I just need to know.  You won't need to say anything to anyone.  You can just be a couple of people.  I can say hello, but oral sex is definitely out.

Thunder and Lightning!  The storms in the Midwest are awesome.  It is one thing I miss. You can flirt a little bit, but you have to stop way before the pants pulling down.  Unfortunately, we need to be cool.  It will be quite the test.  Usually I can't take my eyes or hands off of you.  I am counting on you not to entice me.  Make sure you cover your hair so I don't lose control.  I can't be trusted.

Good morning my love!

It looks like another sunny day! I'm glad it rains at night. That way no rainy day, and no watering the plants. Life is good when it works out that way.

I'm getting ready to take my nephew to brunch. I couldn't think of a place that would take reservations and be uber, so I chose Pastis. It's a good stand-by, and it will remind him of visiting my parents in France. He's staying with 6 other youts in Astoria, 2 girls and 4 boys. I have to find out what's up with the girls? I'm such a nosy aunt. And these 22 year olds are very annoying. They don't make plans until the last minute!

Of course, we'll be cool, both of us, we are the epitome of cool, and we'll keep it that way. So, why exactly would you be coming over to talk to two complete strangers? Promote the band? Or will you have another story? Just in case your wife says, so why were you talking to those two women. Maybe she won't notice, or is she used to you talking to strange women? : )

Don't worry, I'll put my scarf on really tightly. And Maggie is a sight to herself. She's 5'10" , shortish blond hair, and very Irish looking.

What are your plans? Working on Bobbie M?

I love you sooooooo much!

XOXOXOOX

Good morning gorgeous,

I was glad to see your email.  I have had Roya on the brain.

I am going for a bike ride.  I just got back from a run.  It is beautiful out.  I am going to practice, go to church and hit the gym.  Probably barbeque tonight.

I always meet the people who come see us.  I will just say I assume you are friends of somebody else in the band.  It won't be a big deal.  I am glad you are coming.  Even better that you are bringing a friend.  The more the merrier.  I hope you enjoy it.  We have only had one show.  It could still be a disaster.  These people are pretty good though.  It should be fine.

Have fun in the Meatpacking District.  I love you too.

That WAS really funny. They were introduced to the Meatpacking District by one of their friends at Missouri who lives on Park and 93rd.  That's how they refer to him, I don't even know what his name is. Now, he's doing an internship in Madison. I think his parents are getting a divorce, but I didn't get an update from Jacob, or as I call him J-man. Although, I would rather call him Jonesy, but I think he might find that too kiddie  : ) and condescending. I'm glad, and hope he can say he has a nice aunt in the city.

Of course, the family got on my nerves to no end, from the kid who after proclaiming her starvation for 5 hours before the 3 twenty-somethings arrived 30 minutes late (no respect for the elders, I tell ya!) to the infinitely annoying husband. I did my duties, watered the plants my nephew and his wife left while they are gone which might be forever, watered my own plants, called my sister and my mother. And now I have to go watch a movie with Nadi which usually means animation of some kind. We saw How to Tame your Dragon. It was really good.

I just wish I could leave it all, and just be with you..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................

That's the size of my longing. You're like a bowl of ice-cream : ) cool, sweet and creamy....but I must remain hot and parched. It isn't fair.

What are you doing?

Sorry, Nadi’s story got truncated. After she pissed and moaned about being hungry, she decided there was nothing suitable on the menu but French fries and bacon. She also ordered an egg that got screwed up, and after, announced that since all she had was French fries, she is now full of grease. She could've ordered a salad, right?! Kids!

How was the movie?

You haven't mentioned your writing in a few days.  What is up?

My cat is sitting on the computer.  It is hard to type.  I keep taking him off but he comes back.  He must want something.  He is a persistent little beast.  He wakes us up every night.  It makes me crazy, but what are you going to do. I like animals.

This weekend went so fast.  This week should go quickly too. I am really looking forward to playing.  It is a lot of fun.  I hope the band keeps getting gigs.

Love you,

SNB

How was the movie?
That's funny. I just wrote you. Sometimes, we are writing at the same time : )

You haven't mentioned your writing in a few days.  What is up?
I almost finished the first draft. It's about 30 pages, the length it's supposed to be. So, now I think I will set it aside for a few days and study some of the half hour comedies I like on HBO and Showtime. Then polish it. I still have to finish the last scene between these two women talking in a restaurant.

My cat is sitting on the computer.  It is hard to type.  I keep taking him off but he comes back.  He must want something.  He is a persistent little beast.  He wakes us up every night.  It makes me crazy, but what are you going to do. I like animals.
Your cat must be very cute. What's his name? Does he come and sleep on the bed? Why does he wake you up? Just moving around?

This weekend went so fast.  This week should go quickly too.
Well, I'm glad you made sure my SNB keeps his physique : )

I am really looking forward to playing.  It is a lot of fun.  I hope the band keeps getting gigs.
Who arranges for the gigs?

Do you still read the paper around this time?

I love you too, my Shiny. I can't wait to see you play.

It's terrific that you talk to people who come to see you guys play. It's good business, good manners and all around a cool thing to do. So, you aren't as misanthropic as you declare : )
