Almost four years ago, I fell in love for the first time--twenty-five years too late--and began an affair. Over the years, Kevin and I have met several times a week and email several times a day. I have kept almost all of the emails that I sent to him and that he sent to me. Along the way, there has been laughter and tenderness and heat...and heartache.

This blog is the posting of our daily emails. It chronicles the lives of two people over a four year period so far, and tells the story of our burgeoning love against the backdrop of New York City.

The names and addresses have been changed to protect the innocent; the rest is 100% real.

The daily update structure helps keep the blog as authentic as possible as well as living up to its title. It also strives to provide the reader with the kind of pleasure that a soap opera offers--a daily dose of voyeuristic fun.

Please begin at the beginning, otherwise, little will make sense.

Enjoy.

Good morning Roya,

How are you today?  I am still sleepy.  I haven't been waking up rested for the last few weeks.  The funny thing is I have been sleeping more.  I guess it is the heat.  I hope you had a good time at the show last night.

Good morning my love:

I'm sorry the heat has been bothering you. Why don't you run the AC when it's too hot? Or is that just another hassle? I hope the AC at work wasn't too bad yesterday, or at least the complaints weren't.

The concert was weird. We got there near 8 which is when it was to start, so we weren't able to sit up close with more serious music lovers. The reason I've never gone to Shakespeare in the park is because you have to sit up close to see anything; I never thought that was a problem with the Philharmonic, but the sound wasn't that great. It was too low, and we were surrounded by people with children, young children like 4-7 age range. We had Nadi and Ellen (Maggie’s daughter) with us and they went off to play with a beach ball, and harass other people, I'm sure. Then a group of Hispanic women and young children arrived. And this one woman talked incessantly about her stupid life. I tried to pull the blanket away from them, saying "assholes" to no one in particular but loudly.  But there wasn't much room to move away anyway. So, for the next 10 minutes I had to listen to the woman keep saying, she didn't understand whether I meant they were assholes, and why, and what do people expect when they come to a park where kids are. But the kids were fine; it was her who was yapping! All these other people were glaring at them too, but she just didn't seem to understand.  After the intermission, some people left, so we pulled the blankets to an area where there were only adults and everyone seemed to be there for the music. So, that was nice. They played Wagner (an odd choice in Riverdale), Tchaikovsky and Brahms. Then there were fireworks, which I love. So, all in all it was all right, but it could've been better. Next year, I should go earlier so that one can be closer to the stage.

I'm going to be on the road to VT in the afternoon today. I'll take my laptop, but I'll be a little incommunicado until Thursday night. I will write, but I don't think I can write as often.

And you? How come you didn't rehearse on Monday? Isn't that your rehearsal day?

I love you, SNB.

We didn't rehearse because we don't have any gigs booked and we had played three nights the week before.  We resume on Monday.  It was nice to have a break.

Our bedroom is cool.  I don't think it is the heat while I am sleeping.  I think it just generally messes up my body clock.

Too bad about the crowd in the park.  It is inevitable that people spoil the fun.  And I don't mean the kids.  As you note, it is the adults.  The heat probably didn't help.  I don't know how they set their repertoire.  I think Wagner is always an odd choice.

It is a beautiful day for a road trip.  Too bad I can't join you.  Have fun.

I love you gorgeous.

So, since it's my turn to procure a hotel room for next time, I've been doing some research. It seems that the Hilton will put in a request for early check in. Regular is at 3, but they can perhaps do 2. Waldorf will not take early check in requests. I also found Manhattan Hotel, and The Sanctuary, both in Times Square which seem fine, unless you don't want to be in Times Square. Manhattan is on the websites for day rate hotels and claims they don't have day rates, same with Sanctuary, but they will do early check in if they have the rooms, I'm sure Manhattan will too. One must be careful to get a room with a separate private bathroom at the Sanctuary. I also found this funky one that at least on line doesn't look bad.  It's called Herald Square Hotel. They are in Herald Square and do hourly, 3 hours for really cheap, but it looks cute.

Can you check these out and let me know what you think?

XOXOXO

HFG

Herald Square is not bad from what I hear.  When I worked with the Japanese, the guys would go there to shower and nap after their flight from Japan.  They would fly here for a one day visit!  If they were willing to go, it must have been clean.

I will check the others.

I love you HFG.

Im typing on the phone so I have to keep it brief. You think it's so easy for me to walk away from you?

I have so many negative characteristics but cold isn't one of them. If anything I tend to veer in the opposite direction: passion and drama. So next time you see me expect pouting. I'm a woman and come from a culture where women are persuaded, Persians call it nuz. It's a verb. One does nuz.

Still snb. Did you think you could be anything but? So much for being brief.

I still expect a wildly romantic gesture :)

I can't deal with connecting to the net so it's the tiny phone screen.  Im so miserable.  Had a fight with Nadi.  The logistics of our femaleness and mother daughter stuff isn't ideal.  And the marriage the way it is, I don't know if I will survive.

So let's see, can I deduce...it's almost midnight and you never said good-night. Tomorrow is a work day, so you're asleep. I tried to write this on the phone, but lost the draft, so had to connect to this dump's wi-fi. You always say good-night, why not tonight?

XOXOXO

No goodnight just because you’re in NY? Aren't we on internet anyway? .
